| The first day we went was colder, so we had the beach to ourselves. |
This allowed for some free time, which is a rare thing when training is going full tilt, so we all made sure to seize the moment, getting our workouts done early in the day, and catching up on chores, blogging, and anything else we'd been putting off.
Joe and I took the opportunity to see the actual California by hitting the beach. The whole time we've been here we had yet to spend any real time at the beach, let alone get in the water, so we fought our way through true California traffic, and arrived at Ocean Beach in the early afternoon.
We read books, talked to people, listened to music, bodysurfed, and joked about how this must be what "normal" feels like. We stayed for the sunset, took some pictures, and then headed to Pacific Beach, which is about 3 miles North, and experienced some of the nightlife.
A side note: as we drove North, we were on part of the course for the San Diego WTS race that is held at Mission Bay. (This was also the site of the very first triathlon in history)
Today is our final day of unstructured training before we go back to work on Monday. It will likely be the last for a while, as race season is just around the corner. I hope we can still take beach visits from time to time though. Speaking for myself, it is a very centering environment where I can forget about everything that is on my mind and just be. A psychological breath of fresh air before jumping back in.
