I've taken it upon myself to try out the shop's rental 303 Firecrest Carbon Clincher wheelset. These beautiful, remarkably well-named wheels have been sitting lonely at Athletes Lounge with not a single renter for a few months now, and it was time for someone to show them some love.
I am racing the "Piece of Cake Road Race" next weekend, and I thought what better wheel to use for a course with 12 miles of gravel, than the wheel designed for the hardmen who race on the cobblestones in Europe. I decided that I would put the wheels on my bike a week in advance and really give them a proper test. So far, they have passed the aesthetics test (with the exception of the "demo" decals) and my bike is looking superb.
Behold: I barely managed to get it on to my car before I was mobbed by impossibly beautiful women desperate for a moment with the owner of such pure aero excellence. Results ARE typical.
Back to business.
I normally train with a powertap (hub based power) and would be unable to perform this test, but thanks once again to Chris Boudreaux, a man whose limitless intelligence and class are matched only by his generosity, I currently have an SRM at my disposal. Everything that is seen on this phenomenal machine has come from the greatest triathlon establishment known to man, Athletes Lounge. It is no surprise or accident that this choice shop belongs to Mr. Boudreaux. You should, of course, stop reading immediately and rush to the store, (tell them I sent you) and rent these wheels for yourself rather than take my word on how indispensable or perhaps, offensive to the sport of cycling and/or triathlon they are.
Otherwise, check back for more updates this week and after the race on Saturday to see how the wheels and I get along. Adios.
